Disney Television Animation's in-house art show

Papagena on the Half Shell - Every month or two or three, Disney has a show for employees' art. They're taking down the last one now, and installing the next. So before all memory eludes me, here's what I put in the last show:

Ever since finishing the "Adventure time Encyclopaedia", when I had to churn out a bunch of illos, I've drawn more in the same style. The look is fun to make, and feels sort of, well, natural (if thats the word I'm looking for). Papagena is an example of my new approach, and the first print I've actualized onto soft paper from the digital realm.

Transit of Venus

Bob Cato's drawing class, on the same day (and time) as the Transit of Venus. The model was dressed all 18th century (when the transit was all the rage of academia), and the musical accompaniment was the Doctor Who soundtrack. Too funny!

Costumed gesture with Bob Cato started up again at Disney. back with rusty hands to a lara Croft-ish model, and then this week with a glamourous one.

Obama 08, election day

Election day, and I sure am fried at this point. Running on adrenaline and the knowledge that I've only a few more hours to go, I'll soon dive back into the phone bank. My lovely friend Patria took this picture - we hadn't seen each other in ages.

Action Mod Chick

This week, the model is reminiscent of some action/mod paperback cover, and if I could, I'd draw like McGinnis.

In the over-active world of my mind's eye, she's from Eastern Europe. Turns out she has a flat sort of Brooklynese accent.

Figure wash

While I've been having fun doing costume gesture with this pen and wash technique, I couldn't seem to wrap my head (or pen or brush or whatever) around how to draw the nude figure this way. But after hacking away at it for the past few weeks, I feel ok about what I'm doing now. She's kinda got the vibe of Howard Chandler Christy's wood sprites.

Little tramp and Spyguy

This guy went out of his way to invent great poses. The one where it looks like he's falling was accomplished by perching precariously on several stools and drawing benches. I was almost to nervous to draw him.

I had my fingers crossed as I attempted some of the 50's/60's illustrative style, "man on a mission". You know the stuff I mean. It was a nice idea...

Carney Clown Time

Finally, I steal a few spare minutes with a scanner so I can post something!
