Election day, and I sure am fried at this point. Running on adrenaline and the knowledge that I've only a few more hours to go, I'll soon dive back into the phone bank. My lovely friend Patria took this picture - we hadn't seen each other in ages.

Figure wash

While I've been having fun doing costume gesture with this pen and wash technique, I couldn't seem to wrap my head (or pen or brush or whatever) around how to draw the nude figure this way. But after hacking away at it for the past few weeks, I feel ok about what I'm doing now. She's kinda got the vibe of Howard Chandler Christy's wood sprites.

Little tramp and Spyguy

This guy went out of his way to invent great poses. The one where it looks like he's falling was accomplished by perching precariously on several stools and drawing benches. I was almost to nervous to draw him.

I had my fingers crossed as I attempted some of the 50's/60's illustrative style, "man on a mission". You know the stuff I mean. It was a nice idea...

Inaria, Queen of the 3rd Moon of Jupiter
I'm getting very excited about this ink wash thing. It's a lot of fun, although a bit of a mess. I have to remember to factor in drying time, which means drawings thrown all around, ready to get stepped on.

CALIFORNIOS

Legends of Old California. I like to make up stories in my head as I do these three to five minute gestures in life drawing. Definitely Zorro, or some masked Mestizo, and Ramona.
And, a new technique for me - the waterbased brush pen followed by a real brush dipped in water, then the India Ink brush pen and whiteout - the kind with the ball point tip. Kinda stressful juggling all those tools, half of them held between my teeth, and ink smeared all over my face. Plus, I'm completely paranoid I'll tip the paper cup full of water over onto all the potato chip wrinkling drawings that are drying all around my drawing bench. What a scene. It's like performance art.

I will go to life drawing regularly
I will go to life drawing regularly. I will go to life drawing regularly. I will go to life drawing regularly. I will go to life drawing regularly. Is that how to spell regularly? It looks weird.

You know what though? Every time I've gone to figure drawing, it's been the same guy... You can see him in some earlier posts too. Hmm. Looks like his bottom half is bigger than his top half in that second drawing.
